Our Huts
Our huts are yurts. We have
3 mountain yurts and 1 family yurt which is located on the valley floor. They are
20 feet (mountain yurts) and 30 feet (family
yurt) in diameter and sit on wooden platforms,
providing warm, cozy shelters for winter travelers.
Each yurt has sleeping bunks and pads for 8
people, a complete kitchen with three-burner
propane stove for cooking, a wood-burning stove, a kerosene heater, and propane lanterns. Mountain yurts have private, sheltered latrines while the family hut has a separate bathhouse.
Mountain yurts are located approximately 4 miles into the mountains with elevation gains between 1,800 and 2,200 feet. Skiers can expect approximately 3-5 hours of easy to moderately strenuous hiking in the approach. Climbing skins are necessary.
Hut to Hut Tours can be done between Baldy Knoll Yurt and the Plummer Canyon Yurt. The moderately rigorous route descends 1,800 ft (3 miles) then climbs 1,400 ft (2 miles). It involves 2/3 to a full day of ski touring. Guided Hut to Hut tours are available. Topo maps available at www.topostore.com
The Rammell Mountain Family Yurt
Located on 24 wooded acres in the foothills of the Tetons and just half a mile from a plowed road, this yurt makes a unique and accessible lodging experience for families and friends. With easy access to the National Forest and local ski trails, this yurt is ideal for snowshoers and cross-country skiers looking for a private winter getaway. This yurt features solar electricity and a bathhouse.
Commissary
Ridge Yurt
This hut is located at 8,000 ft
on a ridge offering spectacular views of the
Grand, Middle, and South Tetons. Skiers gain
200 ft of elevation the first 3 miles along
an unplowed forest road in S. Leigh Canyon,
then ascend 1,000 ft in the last mile to the
ridge. Novices appreciate the low elevation
and ease of access, while the more experienced
skiers enjoy the 2,000 vertical feet of Beards
Mountain. Abundant terrain for all abilities. Topo map: Granite Basin, WY.
Plummer
Canyon Yurt
This hut is accessed via Moose Creek Canyon in the southern end of the Tetons. The first mile is along a flat forest road. The trail then crosses the creek and rises gradually up Plummer Canyon gaining 1,800 ft in 3.5 miles to 8,400 ft. The hut is situated amidst vast west-facing aspen glades, favoring novice and intermediate skiers. Advanced skiers can explore the 2,000 vertical feet of steeper, north-facing pitches into Game Creek. Topo maps: Victor, Idaho and Rendezvous Peak, WY.
Baldy
Knoll Yurt
Located at 8,800 ft, this is our highest and most remote hut (it was also our first). It requires a 2,200 ft climb over 5.5 miles to the ridge between Fox and Game Creek Canyons. All skiers will be amazed by the amount of ideal ski terrain surrounding this hut. A spectacular traverse through the Tetons to Jackson Hole can be done from this hut over Housetop Peak.
